Soveltava filosofia
The Applied Philosophy Minor will provide the students with a broad and foundational understanding on how to use philosophy and thinking techniques to improve well-being, understanding, creativity and productivity in their studies and working life.
New technologies, and in particular AI, are going to disrupt business, people's lives and society more broadly in the coming years. As computers' capabilities increase, they pose the fundamental question what it means to be human. The Applied Philosophy Minor will provide the students with a broad and foundational understanding on how to use philosophy and thinking techniques to improve well-being, understanding, creativity and productivity in their studies and working life.
Intented learning outcomes:
- The student understands basic philosophical theories and frameworks.
- The student understands how to apply said frameworks in everyday life.
- The student can apply philosophical theories and frameworks in studies and working challenges.
- The student can apply thinking tools and techniques to improve well-being, creativity and productivity.
Some of the courses are only in Finnish or in English.
Registration for minor studies is done on a course-by-course basis. There is no separate registration for the entire minor.

The minor consists of compulsory foundational courses (either TU-E6010 and TU-C3080 or TU-C9310) and optional courses (the rest of the offering).

The structure of the minor can be seen in the student guide intended for Aalto University degree students. Please note that not all courses included in the minor are offered at the Open University.
Once you have completed the minor studies, please submit the form for minor studies.
Open University will check your studies. If studies fulfill the requirements, the minor is registered ºÚÁÏÍø University study registry. You will receive a transcript of records including the minor studies and other possible studies completed at Aalto University. Processing the minor applications will take approximately 1-2 weeks.
