Internationalizing Nordic and Baltic Teacher Training in Visual Arts and Craft Education 2025-2026
“Internationalizing Nordic and Baltic Teacher Training in Visual Arts and Craft Education” is EDDA Norden network’s development project that seeks to establish a sustainable model for EDDA members to integrate international collaboration into the yearly cycle of their study programs.

The second project period (2025-2026) engages students in the development work so that the internationalization of Nordic and Baltic teacher training programs serves also student-driven activities within the EDDA network and enhances students’ ownership in EDDA.

The project is coordinated by Assistant Professor Juuso Tervo at Aalto University (FI). Other participating universities are University of Agder (NO), HDK-Valand Academy of Art and Design (SE), Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design (SE), Umeå University (SE), University College Copenhagen (DK), Vilnius University Siauliai Academy (LT), and Iceland University of the Arts (IS). The development project is funded by Nordplus Higher Education.

EDDA Norden is a Nordic and Baltic community of 19 universities in which art education is taught, studied, and researched. The network aims to support and develop pedagogical collaboration between the network partners and launch new initiatives to develop art educational contents and practices across Nordic and Baltic countries. The network supports student and teacher mobility (including internships) as well as offers partner institutions the possibility to organize joint intensive courses and development projects. EDDA brings together students and teachers regardless of their level (BA, MA, or special diploma studies for general pedagogy students) and supports inter-institutional collaboration with external partners.

Teaching Award
Juuso Tervo has always fostered a fertile relationship between his teaching and his research in the field of art education, all for the clear benefit of his students. At Aalto he has contributed greatly to the University Wide Art Studies initiative, and to NOVA, the Nordic Visual Studies and Art Education Program, of which he is presently the Head. Juuso is an active and ever helpful member of the teaching community of the department, and has, despite his commitment to the demanding job, been able to remain “The sanest person in this school,” as the nominator for this award described him.
