A Minor in International Business is offered at the Aalto University School of Business Mikkeli Campus. The Minor in International Business prepares students to meet the demands of business in the global marketplace and advanced studies. Offering the minor entirely in English, the curriculum facilitates individual and collaborative learning in a multicultural context, while ensuring basic literacy in the field of international business. Upon completion of the minor, students will have the following competences - they will be able to:

• understand the key theories and concepts of international business and link them to their major fields of study and expertise;
• analyse the political, legal, economic, and cultural environment of international companies and other organizations, in particular addressing sustainability challenges;
• navigate effectively in international business, for example: recognizing international business opportunities, managing internationalization and international market development, and dealing with diverse cultural contexts; and
• engage in an international learning community by developing presentation, communication and teamwork skills.

Studying at the Mikkeli campus

Because English is the language of instruction, it is essential that all students understand rapid, idiomatic English as spoken in lectures and group discussions. Students also are expected to be able to read English with ease and to express their thoughts clearly in spoken and written English.

Most Mikkeli Campus courses are taught in the form of intensive three-week modules that run through the entire year. For each module, classes are scheduled for three hours a day, five days a week, for a total of 45 contact hours, which includes examinations. All students are expected to attend courses on a full-time basis, so class attendance is mandatory with some exceptions.

We have an ongoing application process for the IB Minor. The applications must be sent at least two (2) months before the beginning of the first IB Minor course in the study plan of the student. Please find the link to the Course Schedule above.

*You can also list two potential courses/module in the order of preference. Because the students can attend only one course at the time, you will be registered only for one course/ module. In case your first choice course is full, we will try to register you to your second choice course. The course schedule can be found here.

   • The student must have completed one Bachelor's level basic course in the field of business before attending the other courses for the IB Minor in Mikkeli. The student can also complete the basic course in Mikkeli. The basic course should support the other studies completed for the IB Minor. The course can be for example one of the following basic courses:
     • Introduction to Management, 6 cr
       Introduction to Marketing, 6 cr
       Operations Management, 6 cr
       Principles of Finance, 6 cr
2. three elective courses (18 ECTS) offered by the International Business programme (completed in Mikkeli).
