Printlab / Bookstudio

Bookstudio Digital printshop, Väre F014

Aalto’s students and staff can order printed media products form Printlab’s Bookstudio. This is intended as a support service for teaching, research, artistic activities and communication. The workshop master at Bookstudio can help for example with printing required for courses but also provides personal guidance and makes their expertise available when you need to know more about printed products. Make the reservations for printing and materials in advance, preferably by email or by visiting Bookstudio. The equipment at Bookstudio (e.g. Pantone colour charts, paper samples, loupes, rulers) can be borrowed while in the Bookstudio facility.

Publications are printed using a laser production printer. The printer is suitable for example for the following products: A3 posters, cards, brochures, portfolios and theses. When books/newspapers are produced, the binding option is saddle stitching (staples in the middle of a sheet folded in two). The paper weight per square metre can be 52-350 g/m2 and the sheet size for example SRA3 (32x45 cm). There is a small selection of paper material suitable for laser printing in the storage room at Bookstudio, but material should be booked well in advance, preferably a week before the planned printing. You can also suggest your own alternatives for testing, as long as they are suitable.

More information is also available on the Printlab website: http://printlab.aalto.fi/sample-page/bookstudio/

In addition to printing, Bookstudio also has an electric cutter, a creasing and folding machine and a manual saddle stitch stapler suitable for processing the products after printing.
