Learn about software version control with Aalto Research Software Engineers.
Good enough software version control

Description

Version control keeps track of the changes made to your code or other small files. For research to be reproducible, and to recover from mistakes, this is one of the most important tools for everyone to use.

Most talks on version control are complex. Not this one: we’ll show the minimum that is good enough to be useful, but bad enough that it’s easy to use. You’ll learn how to track what you do, so that if you make a mistake, you can go back in time and see what happened.

Aalto Research Software Engineers are a service team which helps academics with their problems in programming, data, and scientific computing workflows. If you start with what you learn in this talk, the Research Software Engineers can help with future problems that may come up.

Who can participate?

The webinar is aimed at staff and students who are writing research software or are interested in the topic. No prior knowledge is required. The services of Aalto Research Software Engineers are available only for Aalto personnel, but anyone is free to join the session.

Format

The session consists of a presentation and a Q&A.

Schedule and location

The training will be held on Zoom on April 23, at 1–2.30 PM Eastern European Summer Time (EEST).
