Gust. Komppa Award 2024 ºÚÁÏÍø University
The Komppa Prize was awarded for the best chemistry dissertation to Dr. Tech. Sofia Julin from Aalto University together with PhD Christina Jäger from the University of Helsinki. Both dissertations represent a very high scientific standard, reflecting a very broad methodological expertise.
The Turnitin similarity and AI reports as part of the master's thesis submission starting from January 2025
Starting in January 2025, a Turnitin similarity report will be generated from the same file for all master's theses submitted for evaluation, approval, and archiving.

New life for construction waste wood
In Finland, almost all waste wood from construction ends up being burned, even though it could play a major role in the development of ecological growing media. New research shows that steam-treated waste wood can replace peat as a growing medium and offers promising results in plant germination and root growth.

Origami packaging enables completely new properties for cartonboard, making it an excellent alternative to, for example, plastic and expanded polystyrene in packaging. The aesthetics of the material have also garnered interest from designers.
