Changes in Open University Course Fees in Autumn 2025

Starting from the autumn semester of 2025, the Open University will introduce three course fee categories:

  • 20 euros per credit
  • Free of charge
  • 45 euros per credit

The main fee category for Open University studies will be 20 euros, meaning that the course fee for the majority of courses offered by the Open University will be 20 euros per credit. You can always find the course fee in the course description.

The Open University also offers some courses free of charge. In addition, there are courses that are free for Aalto University staff and Aalto degree students during summer. You can find information about free course places in the course description.

In the future, courses may be available in the 45€/credit fee category as part of the Open University's offerings. These course fees will be planned on a case-by-case basis and for justified reasons. Such implementations are not yet available, and further information will be provided separately.

The change in course fees is due to the reduction in governmental funding received by the university and changes in the government decree regarding the maximum course fees charged. The change in fees enables the Open University to continue offering a diverse range and high quality of courses.
