The Helsinki Graduate School of Economics (Helsinki GSE) has established a situation room to support ministries and other public authorities in economic policy-making during the coronavirus crisis. The Helsinki GSE situation room aims to provide decision-makers with a close to real-time view on developments in the corporate sector, the labor market, and society in general.

The Situation Room published its first report on Wednesday 15 April 2020 at 9 am. This first report answers the following questions with diagrams:

• What percentage of companies have had lay-offs in March–April 2020 and how does this differ from lay-offs in January–February 2020?
• What percentage of their workforce have companies had to lay off if they have had to lay off employees (March–April vs. January–February)?
• What percentage of their workforce have companies had to make redundant if they have had to terminate employment contracts (March–April vs. January–February)?
• How have Business Finland’s funding decisions changed from January–February to March–April?

These issues are reported by sector, region and company size.

The report also illustrates how the issues listed above correlate with changes in demand in different sectors based on recent data.

The weekly webinars will be held in Finnish; they are open to everyone and free of charge.
