International and national foundations
Many foundations provide funding possibilities for doctoral studies. On the table below you can find a list of some of the prominent Finnish foundations which could provide funding. Please note that the application periods given on the table below are only approximate times and the information is based on previous year's application rounds. Please check the correct times directly from the foundation's pages.

Other possibilities to find funding:
- International or national doctoral programmes funded by EU or Finnish government
- Grants given by other governments for their citizens for completing the doc. degree internationally.
- Grants given by your home university to pursue for doctoral degree at abroad.
- Follow Aalto's Open positions - Aalto University's research groups have projects which provide employment in the role of doctoral researcher
- Finland Fellowship - new funding opportunity for new doctoral students in years 2022-2024. Applicants for Finland Fellowships must be citizens of nation in Africa, Central America or South America. Program ends in year 2024.
Aalto CHEM school's funding (1 - 6 months) for completing a doctoral thesis manuscript for the pre-examination
Application calls are open for two times per year based on decision by dean. Finalizing funding call for spring 2025 was open between 8 October 2024 - 5 November 2024, and the next funding call for funding to be used during the autumn season 2025 is open now from 28 April until 26 May 2025. The funding decisions will be communicated to all applicants by end of June 2025.

The next funding call is opens from 28 April 2025. The use of this next applicable funding must start within timeline 1 August – 1 December 2025.

Funding for postdoc season
is offering grants for scholars, who have recently completed their doctoral degree and wish to conduct research abroad from Finland for at least six months. See for extensive information regarding the postdoc funding process and application seasons.
(Post Docs in Companies) offers a research period followed by a targeted research period lasting all together 1-2 years. PoDoCo foundation pool offers research grants for the research period. .
