Adding activities related to public engagement, teaching, and supervision in ACRIS
In addition to work directly related to your role as a researcher, such as organising a scientific conference or peer-review and editorial work, include activities that demonstrate public engagement, teaching and supervision merits, and other relevant activities. Please find some examples below.
Public engagement or public outreach
When you visit schools or invite students ºÚÁÏÍø to tell them about your research or your work as a researcher:
- Participating in or organising event types > School engagement
When your audience for an event or presentation is non-academic:
- Participating in or organising event types > Organisation of an event for a non-academic audience (public outreach)
- Talk or presentation types > Public talk to non-academic audience (public outreach)
When you welcome visitors to the infrastructure you manage or use:
- Other activitiy types > Short group visit to research infrastructure
Teaching and supervision work
When you have diverse teaching experiences and have developed new teaching materials or methods:
- Other activity types > Teaching merits
Supervised or advised doctoral theses are integrated into your profile. Supervised master's theses will be integrated in autumn 2025. If you have experience as a supervisor, advisor, or opponent at other universities, please include it here. Supervision of bachelor's theses at Aalto can also be added.
- Academic assessments > Pre-examination of doctoral thesis or acting as opponent to doctoral students or membership of doctoral thesis committee or board
- Academic assessments > Evaluation of other than doctoral thesis (e.g. licentiate, master's)
- Academic assessments > Appointed supervisor or advisor of postgraduates at Higher Eduaction Institutions
- Academic assessments > Appointed supervisor or advisor of undergraduates at Higher Education Institutions
Non-academic consultancy
You collaborate with the public or private sector, offering decision-making advice, which may involve financial exchange. This is a more informal relationship than a position of trust. As a representative of Aalto University, statements are provided free of charge.
- Commercial, industrial or non-academic activities > Consultancy and expert advice (including statements)

Hint: Follow the development of FIN-CAM (Finnish Career Assessment Matrix), a national assessment tool designed to facilitate a comprehensive, systematic, and transparent evaluation of an individual researcher's merits and competences in assessment situations. When preparing your CV, consider using ideas from this tool.
