Adding activities to ACRIS

In ACRIS, you can register various activities to showcase your research involvement. Researchers must submit and regularly update their activity data. Activity data is public by default but can be set to restricted visibility by the submitter. Activity data is not validated.

Quick guide

  1. Choose the Add Content button in
  2. Select the correct template, e.g., publication peer-review and editorial work types.
  3. Template can be changed using the Change template option located at the top right.
  4. Mandatory fields are marked with a red asterisk *.
  5. In the case of conference activities, an event (i.e., conference) relation is required. Select Event / Add event, and either link to an existing conference or create a new event using the Create new function.
  6. Link the activity to your ACRIS profile using the Persons function.
  7. Use your department as the Managing organizational unit.
  8. In the Keywords section, International activity and Country are mandatory for the activity types Visiting an external organisation and Hosting a visitor.
  9. In the Keywords section, you can tag open science keywords or research ethics and research integrity keywords to your activity to describe the types of open science or research ethics-related activities involved.
  10. Linking Aalto infrastructure to activities, research outputs, and datasets is important. You can create links to other content types in the Relations section. For more information, see Research infrastructures in ACRIS.

Adding activities related to public engagement, teaching, and supervision in ACRIS

In addition to work directly related to your role as a researcher, such as organising a scientific conference or peer-review and editorial work, include activities that demonstrate public engagement, teaching and supervision merits, and other relevant activities. Please find some examples below.

Public engagement or public outreach

When you visit schools or invite students ºÚÁÏÍø to tell them about your research or your work as a researcher:

  • Participating in or organising event types > School engagement

When your audience for an event or presentation is non-academic:

  • Participating in or organising event types > Organisation of an event for a non-academic audience (public outreach)
  • Talk or presentation types > Public talk to non-academic audience (public outreach)

When you welcome visitors to the infrastructure you manage or use:

  • Other activitiy types > Short group visit to research infrastructure

Teaching and supervision work

When you have diverse teaching experiences and have developed new teaching materials or methods:

  • Other activity types > Teaching merits

Supervised or advised doctoral theses are integrated into your profile. Supervised master's theses will be integrated in autumn 2025. If you have experience as a supervisor, advisor, or opponent at other universities, please include it here. Supervision of bachelor's theses at Aalto can also be added. 

  • Academic assessments > Pre-examination of doctoral thesis or acting as opponent to doctoral students or membership of doctoral thesis committee or board
  • Academic assessments > Evaluation of other than doctoral thesis (e.g. licentiate, master's)
  • Academic assessments > Appointed supervisor or advisor of postgraduates at Higher Eduaction Institutions
  • Academic assessments > Appointed supervisor or advisor of undergraduates at Higher Education Institutions

Non-academic consultancy

You collaborate with the public or private sector, offering decision-making advice, which may involve financial exchange. This is a more informal relationship than a position of trust. As a representative of Aalto University, statements are provided free of charge. 

  • Commercial, industrial or non-academic activities > Consultancy and expert advice (including statements)

Hint: Follow the development of FIN-CAM (Finnish Career Assessment Matrix), a national assessment tool designed to facilitate a comprehensive, systematic, and transparent evaluation of an individual researcher's merits and competences in assessment situations. When preparing your CV, consider using ideas from this tool.
