Join us to talk about your experiences on job search and working in Finland. What good practices would you like to share with your fellow students, and on the other hand, what challenges have you faced as a jobseeker in Finland. This spring's first Beat the Blues event offers a space and time for networking with other international students and reflecting on job seeking themes.
After warm-up, Aalto Career Design Lab manager Aila Saloranta will give an introduction to the topic of job search in Finland as an international. The event continues with casual workshopping in small groups, covering topics such as job-seeking culture, language issues and networking. The goal of this event is to support you in navigating your way into Finnish job market.

I'm enough - the power of self compassion

Self-compassion can be described as an internal force, a skill that can help us navigate through the ups and downs in life. Its tender side allows us to treat ourselves with kindness and care when we most need it. Its fierce side can help us take action, to protect ourselves and reach our goals. It can also help us connect to others and therefore reduce loneliness.

Adjusting to life in a new country is similar to other transitions, like moving to a new city or starting a new job, but with the added dimensions of adapting to cultural and language differences. Cultural adjustments can affect people living far from home in unexpected ways. Come and learn what can happen during your stay in Finland and how it may affect your studies especially at the beginning. And if you already have been in Finland for longer and feel that you have found a way to cope through and with the culture shock, come and share your valuable Top Tips for the newcomers!
