“Maanpako” (Finnish for "exile" and literally, "earth escape") is a poetic and mysterious character-driven narrative set in a future dystopian world, where humanity has been exiled from Earth due to irreversible climate change. As generations pass, humans struggle with their lost connection to nature and the distant hope of one day returning.

The film delves into complex questions surrounding the human relationship with nature, memory, and identity, through five characters—each with a distinct perspective on exile and Earth's forgotten past. Central to the story is a mysterious organic object, passed down through these characters. This object represents humanity's severed bond with nature and may hold the key to returning to Earth. Each character interacts with the object uniquely, revealing their individual relationship with exile, memory, and hope.
