Alumni Photography Talks lecture series

Laura Böök (b. 1986) is a Helsinki-based artist working with moving image, photography, and
text. Her practice draws inspiration from everyday life, the strangeness of the ordinary, and small
observations. She graduated with a Master of Arts from Aalto University in 2020.
Her work has been shown at HAM Gallery and Photographic Gallery Hippolyte in Helsinki,
Taidekeskus Mältinranta in Tampere, and in several international group exhibitions. Böök explores
fragmentary approaches to documentary work and how personal experience and subtle observations
can be translated into moving image.
In the lecture, she will share her artistic process: how transitioning from photography to moving
image has shaped her work, what collaboration with participants and production teams looks like,
and which practical and ethical questions arise in documentary practice. She will also reflect on the
early years of her career, including challenges, sources of support, and tips for grant and exhibition
applications. The lecture is designed to be interactive, and audience questions and reflections are
warmly welcomed.

Alumni Talks is a lecture series for alumni of Aalto University’s Photography program who
graduated approximately five years ago. The series aims to foster connections between photography
alumni, current Aalto students and staff, and the wider public.
