Doc+ Dialogues panel discussion series

Today’s doctoral graduates navigate academic paths, industry roles, entrepreneurial opportunities, creative practice, policy work, and everything in between. This multi-disciplinary kick-off sessionhighlights why diverse career awareness matters early in the doctoral journey — and how developing adaptable, future-ready skills enables you to create meaningful impact wherever your work leads.

The panel features Tero Ojanperä, who has led frontier research at Nokia, co-founded Silo AI, and chaired multiple boards, illustrating pathways from science to entrepreneurship and influence; Ewald Kibler, Associate Professor and Head of Entrepreneurship Unit at the Aalto University School of Business, brings research-based perspectives into how careers are shaped through agency with particular insight into how scholars build and sustain careers across different institutional and national contexts; and Ia Adlercreutz, a creative professional with leadership and board experience in design-led companies, highlighting alternative expert careers where creativity, craftsmanship and business intersect.

We'll discuss e.g. the following topics:

  • What are the potential benefits of being open to diverse career paths from the outset?
  • What specific transferable skills should doctoral researchers focus on developing?
  • How can students balance pursuing academic careers with exploring industry roles or entrepreneurship?

This event is designed for all Aalto doctoral researchers and postdocs with the aim of connecting scholars and practitioners from multiple fields and research traditions. You are warmly welcome to listen, question, and reflect with peers who are navigating similar uncertainties and ambitions.
