Now is your chance to meet other chemistry-loving researchers!
Aalto CHEM organises event taking place on the 10th February at 8:30 in Kemistintie 1 upstairs lobby.
This year’s Global Women’s Breakfast takes place under the theme “Many Voices, One Science.” At Aalto CHEM, our event focuses specifically on non-apparent challenges in academic life. Dean Kristiina Kruus will open the event, after which University Lecturer Eeva-Leena Rautama will share her experiences on non-apparent challenges at work, their impact on working life, and what the community should be aware of. In addition, occupational health psychologist and psychotherapist Ilkka Tuomi will discuss mental health-related challenges at work and how our working environment as well as occupational healthcare services can provide support.
Everyone i.e. all genders, all personnel, all fields are warmly welcome, but please register by 6th February at noon via .
Feel free to pop anytime between 08:30-10:30 to have breakfast and meet fellow colleagues, discuss and get new ideas!

Eeva-Leena Rautama is a University Lecturer at Aalto University’s Department of Chemistry and Materials Science in the School of Chemical Engineering. She earned her Doctor of Science degree from Aalto University in 2010, focusing on new perovskite-related materials. Her expertise spans inorganic materials characterization and X-ray diffraction methods.
Eeva teaches both bachelor's and master’s students. In courses like general chemistry and instrumental methods she focuses on theory, while her lab sessions have a strong emphasis on hands-on experimental training and laboratory safety.
Alongside teaching, Eeva participates actively in research. Her interests center on crystal structures and structure–property relationships, particularly in solid electrochemical materials: oxygen-evolution electrocatalysts, battery electrodes and electrolytes.
Ilkka Tuomi is an occupational health psychologist and psychotherapist who graduated from the University of Tampere in 2014 (PsM). He is dedicated to understanding and promoting mental health, particularly in the context of work life. Ilkka is committed to supporting the creation of healthy workplaces, considering individual, team, management, and organizational levels. Mental health as a phenomenon affects us all and is not constant; it fluctuates depending on multiple (at least gazillion) factors and over time. Academic life itself brings its own factors that are potentially affecting mental health. Ilkka strives to promote constructive change and also conveys a normalizing message regarding mental health difficulties. No one is immune to mental health challenges and through understanding, tolerance and appropriate support become possible.
