Public Lecture by Professor Renate E. Meyer: One frame to bind them all? A multimodal analysis of anti-vaccination framing on social media
The Unit of Organizational Communication in collaboration with the CAOS Network is delighted to welcome Professor Renate E. Meyer (WU Vienna University of Economics and Business / Copenhagen Business School) for a public lecture on multimodal framing and institutional disruption in the digital era. Professor Meyer will discuss how digital communication technologies have transformed the ways in which social and organizational issues are interpreted and how agreement—or disagreement—emerges around them. Her talk draws on a longitudinal study of anti-vaccination discourse on Facebook between 2010 and 2021, conducted with Elena Bruni and Dennis Jancsary. She will show how verbal and visual framing strategies evolve together over time and present four interlinked frames that structure this discourse. The analysis demonstrates how specific combinations of text and imagery can reinforce narratives that challenge established cultural and institutional orders.
