AR4U is a research project creating a voice-controlled AI assistant together with older adults. The goal is to see how a service using voice technology can help people live independently, feel safer, and have company in daily life.
As more older adults live alone, everyday challenges like remembering things, feeling lonely, or worrying about safety are common. The AR4U service helps with these: it reminds users about medications and appointments, suggests light exercise, and encourages social interaction. The service works through a smart speaker or phone calls and has already been tested with seniors with positive feedback.
One example is a system where the AI calls a couple of times a day to check how the user is doing. If the user does not answer or feels unwell, the system notifies a relative or healthcare provider. This adds extra safety without replacing human contact and gives relatives and caregivers more time for real interactions.
