Times Higher Education (THE) is one of the world's most important university rankings. THE’s general ranking measures the performance of universities with 13 indicators in the areas of international research, citations, teaching and research funding from companies. In addition to the general ranking, it produces rankings in specific fields of science and regional rankings. Aalto's general ranking is 190th on the list of 1,100 best universities worldwide. The general ranking was published on 5 September 2017. In the THE comparison of the 200 best universities in Business & Economics, published on 4 October, Aalto is in 58th place. THE does not make comparisons in the arts as a separate category.

The Times Higher Education (THE) World University Ranking released its rankings in the fields of Computer Science and Engineering and technology on Tuesday, 17 October.
