Aalto University ranks 47th in the world in responsible consumption and production in this year鈥檚 Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings. The ranking is based on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations, and Aalto University was assessed in 13 of these goals. The responsible consumption and production goal was evaluated by the university鈥檚 publications and citations in this area, related university鈥檚 operations (e.g. waste disposal) and sustainability reporting. Last year Aalto came 2nd in this area.

Aalto also made it to the top 200 in four other SDGs: Industry, innovation and infrastructure; Sustainable cities and communities; Clean water and sanitation; and Climate action.

Aalto University鈥檚 overall ranking in 2021 was 201-300 (47th place in 2020). This is the third year the University Impact Rankings have been released.

The number of universities participating has continued to rise: in 2019 there were less than 500 universities and in 2021 over 1200 universities. This year there were also changes made to the ranking methodology, which may also affect the results or comparisons to previous years鈥 rankings.

Aalto University was the first university in Finland to sign the SDG Accord in 2018, in which world universities pledge to act in accordance with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
