Aalto University placed 30^th in the world in this year’s Times Higher Education (THE) Young University Rankings. The ranking lists the world’s best universities that are 50 years old or younger. Aalto is the 1^st Nordic university in this ranking. Last year, Aalto University placed 28^th in this list.

The THE ranking assesses young 539 universities against criteria such as research, teaching, international outlook and industry collaboration. The table is based on the same 13 performance indicators as the more extensive THE World University Rankings, in which Aalto University was ranked between 201 and 250.

Depending on the calculation method, there are 17 000–22 000 universities in the world, of which approximately 1 000 are in Europe.
