World Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, will run from 13 April to 13 October 2025 and is expected to attract over 28 million visitors. The EU is participating with its Pavilion and its inspiring programme, including a two-day New European Bauhaus (NEB) conference on sustainability, architecture and urban innovation. Aalto University has been a partner of NEB right from its launch in 2021, and the EU Commission has now invited Aalto University to host day two of the conference.

In Aalto’s event on Saturday 31 May, visitors to the EU Pavilion will learn about sustainable construction practices, get to know some tangible, real-life examples of the New European Bauhaus initiative in Finland, and be encouraged to learn new skills — which is necessary when we want to drive innovation and transformation. The academic leader of the event is Professor Matti Kuittinen. Also, Aalto’s event kicks off a new series of events designed to strengthen the ties between Japan and Europe in the NEB context.

You are very welcome to join the event if you are in Expo 2025 Osaka! As a hybrid event, it is possible to follow the event online via a live stream. See more details below.

Aalto University is also organising and Alumni & Friends event in Tokyo on Tuesday 3 June. You are welcome to join us if in Tokyo! Please read more below.

The New European Bauhaus initiative aims to accelerate the sustainability transition by bringing citizens, experts, businesses and institutions together to experiment and reimagine sustainable living in Europe. In addition to creating a platform for innovation and connection, the initiative supports positive change also by providing access to EU funding for beautiful, sustainable, and inclusive projects.
