Aalto University ranks high in two listings for young universities
Aalto University placed among the top 20 in the world in two ranking lists for young universities that are under 50 years of age, the QS World University Rankings 50 Under 50 and the Times Higher Education (THE) Young University Rankings, both among the most prestigious university rankings.
In the QS Top 50 Under 50 Rankings, Aalto retained its excellent 9th position from last year, being the 3rd highest-ranked European university and the 1st Nordic university. The Top 50 Under 50 Ranking is based on the QS World University Rankings general ranking published in early June, in which Aalto placed 127th. In addition to the general ranking, QS produces rankings by region and subject area.
Aalto University performed remarkably well also in the Times Higher Education Young University Rankings, being the 20th in the world (last year’s ranking 18th) and the first among Nordic universities. The THE ranking assesses young 414 universities against criteria such as research, teaching, international outlook and industry collaboration.
Depending on the calculation method, there are 17 000–22 000 universities in the world, of which approximately 1 000 are in Europe.
