Universum, a research company, conducts an annual global survey of current Bachelor and Master students. The Talent Research 2024 survey was conducted in winter 2023–2024 and 454 students from the School of Business responded. The survey examined Finnish university students' thoughts about their university and their career aspirations.

The results of the recent survey show that on a scale of 0–10, students at the School of Business give a score of 8.3 for satisfaction with their school. Satisfaction has remained almost the same over the last five years. Students at other Finnish universities that offer business education give their schools an average rating of 7.7.

Excellent results in a global comparison

In Universum's global comparison, the responses of students from the School of Business were compared to students from Stockholm School of Economics, Copenhagen Business School, Erasmus universiteit Rotterdam, Handelshoyskolen BI Oslo and University of St. Gallen.

Students at the School of Business gave their school a score of 8.3 on a scale of 1–10, compared to 7.9 for the peer group. The biggest differences between students at the School of Business and the peer universities were in the following attributes: a friendly and open learning environment (54% vs. 40%), a good reference for a future career (77% vs. 66%) and a creative and dynamic atmosphere (52% vs. 34%). It is particularly noteworthy that, with regard to the other seven positive attributes identified in the survey, students at the School of Business also associated them with their own school more often than students at peer schools on average.

The School of Business has an excellent reputation among its students

The survey asked students about their perceptions of their university by asking questions in four different areas: reputation of the university/college, teaching, culture and employment. In several areas, students' views on the School of Business stood out clearly from those of their national peer universities. For example, students at the School of Business considered the teaching at their school to be of very high quality, the opportunities to study abroad to be excellent and the employment opportunities after graduation to be very good. Students at other Finnish universities were less sure about the above, based on their own studies.

‘The results of this very large survey confirm our belief that our teachers are really committed to the quality of teaching and that students are satisfied with the quality of education they receive. These results are a particular source of pride for our entire community,’ says Timo Korkeamäki, Dean of the School of Business.

High quality teaching and programmes

The reputation of the School of Business was considered excellent by students. When asked to describe what they thought of their school, 72% of respondents thought it was excellent. Less than half (49%) of respondents from other universities thought of quality teaching. Successful alumni (65% of respondents vs. 31% for other universities), being among the best students (65% vs. 23% for other universities) and being an internationally recognized university (61% vs. 33% for other universities) were the next most frequently associated with the reputation of the School of Business.

Students particularly like the following aspects of the School of Business's educational offering: 68% of students like the high-quality programmes (32% of students at other universities) and the opportunity to study abroad 63% (vs. 45% of students at other universities). Course choice was mentioned by 59% (vs. 54% at other universities) and excellent professors and lecturers by 58% of respondents (vs. 30% at other universities) when students were asked to think about their university's teaching.

International culture and excellent employment prospects

In terms of culture, students at the School of Business have a strong preference for an international student body (74% of students said this), which clearly distinguishes it from other Finnish universities. Only 44% of students from other universities associated this characteristic with the culture of their university. Campus safety was a major concern for 68% of respondents, with almost as many students (60%) at other universities. 57% of respondents at the School of Business considered studies to be affordable, compared to 45% at other universities. 56% of respondents at the School of Business thought of campus restaurants in this context, compared to only 40% at other universities.

On employability, 77% of students at the School of Business think that their school is 'a hard currency' in the labour market. Among students from other universities, only 45% of respondents thought this. 60% of students at the School of Business believe that their own school is strongly in the minds of employers in the commercial sector. Only 27% of students at other universities thought this.

The School of Business students also appreciate the School's career services. 84 % of the students say they have used at least one of the career services available, whereas among the students from other universities, this percentage was 76 %. In addition, the School of Business students gave a score of 7.7 (on a scale of 0–10) for satisfaction with the School's career services, whereas the average rating of the students from other universities was 7.3.
