Auditor's report meets antimatter

Welcome to the installation lectures of Aalto University professors on 28 May!

The event to celebrate tenured professors, which has already established itself as a tradition, takes place on Thursday 28 May 2015 at 15,  Open Innovation House in Otaniemi, Otaniementie 19–21, Espoo . We can again expect interesting and popular presentations in the fields of art and design, business and economics, and science and technology. Lily Diaz, an expert in information design, virtual reality, and digital legacy, will ponder how ubiquitous data technology and surveillance systems are changing the world, and blurring the boundaries between people and machines. Toni Kotnik, who is skilled in experimental and research-oriented architecture, will talk about the inseparable, but flexible relationship between material and form, and its significance for the design process.

The purpose of auditing is to confirm a financial statement of a company's management and,  thereby, to increase its value for a company's financiers. But what is the true information value of an auditor's report? Shedding light on this will be Lasse Niemi, who has also specialised in his career in the study of corporate governance and annual reports. Filip Tuomisto, who is responsible for teaching and research of nuclear technology at Aalto University, will tell about how positrons, or antimatter, can be used to study structure at the atomic level, something which plays a key role in the manufacture of safer materials, for instance.

The English-language lectures are open to all. You are warmly welcome!
