Big savings in campus' energy consumption

Aalto community's energy conservation measures covering the entire Otaniemi campus started on 10 October 2022, and we also participated in the national Down a Degree (Astetta alemmas) energy conservation campaign. At the end of 2022, big savings were already achieved in the campus' energy consumption. New energy conservation measures will be introduced.

With the energy saving campaign that started in October 2022, we have already saved a lot of both electricity and heat energy on the campus. The absolute consumption figures compared to December 2022 and December 2021 are -7.15 percent for electricity and -23.36 percent for heat.

The goal of the Aalto community is to reduce energy consumption by 15 percent during the 12 months following the start of the energy saving campaign. Already a quarter of the entire 15 percent annual goal has been achieved between October and December.

New energy conservation measures introduced

Ventilation of the building, room temperature adjustments and changing to LED lighting still provide opportunities to cut energy consumption on campus. However, it is particularly important to note that the entire community's commitment to energy saving in all its activities brings results.

As part of energy saving measures, outdoor power sockets for heating cars on the Otaniemi campus will be switched off in January. Until now, some sockets have been in use in various places around the campus.

Removing the power sockets was raised as an energy saving tip from Aalto community. If you have any questions or, for example, need to return the key to the pole, please contact the building manager of your own building.
