Business is sustainability and sustainability is business

The year 2024 can be called the year of sustainability, as the School of Business continued to strongly promote sustainability in its research, teaching and other activities, which was also recognised with awards

The year of sustainability 2024 got off to a great start when the School of Business was accepted as a Champion of the UN's Principles of Responsible Management Education (PRME) network, which promotes sustainable development in business schools. Being accepted for the two-year Champion period (2024–2025) shows that the School of Business is on the right track in its work to promote sustainability and responsibility.

‘Our admission to the PRME Champion group shows that we have been consistently doing the right things. On the other hand, it also indicates that we are ready to share our own experiences with others and to improve ourselves,’ Dean Timo Korkeamäki says.

The Financial Times, a prestigious business newspaper, also gave international recognition to the Aalto University School of Business's sustainability education. It praised, among other things, the School of Business's holistic approach to sustainability issues. The Financial Times Responsible Business Education Award 2024 was also awarded to four other universities.

‘This recognition is thanks to dedicated work of many over the years. Three most recent structural changes I’d like to share are that we integrated sustainability aspects in four out of five overarching learning goals covering all programmes. Additionally, we ask in all course feedback how students evaluate sustainability integration in the respective course and in the beginning of Bachelor studies, a core course is all about Business and Society,’ says Professor Minna Halme.

There are a few sustainability news pieces from 2024 below that reflect the School of Business' broad focus on sustainability.
