The application period for Aalto University's English-taught bachelor's programmes ended on 17 January 2024. Aalto received 9 236 applications, marking a 6% increase compared to the previous year. There were 5 210 applicants in total. The programme in the field of science and technology received 5 438 applications, arts and design programmes received 742 applications, and those in business and economics received 3 056. Aalto has witnessed increasing demand internationally, as the recently ended master's-level application period also broke records, with a 46% increase in the number of applications.

70% of the applications ºÚÁÏÍø’s English-taught bachelor programmes came from international students, i.e. students whose nationality is other than Finnish. In total, the applicants represent 126 different nationalities. At the master’s level, 87% of the submissions were from international applicants. 

In the field of art and design, the Bachelor's Programme in Design received 742 applications. In business and economics, the Bachelor's Programme in Economics received 1 596 applications, while the Bachelor's Programme in International Business received 1 460 applications. The latter programme is offered at the School of Business' unit in Mikkeli. Among the English-taught study options in the field of science and technology, Chemical Engineering received 773 applications, Computational Engineering 1 284 applications, Data Science 1 663 Digital Systems and Design 940, and Quantum Technology 778 applications. 

The admissions results for the English bachelor’s programmes will be published 31 May 2024 at the latest.   The application periods for some of Aalto’s international joint master’s programmes and doctoral programmes are currently ongoing; the periods can be found on each programme’s own webpage. The upcoming application period for the Finnish and Swedish bachelor’s programmes runs from 13 to 27 March 2024.  

Opportunities to upgrade skills without entering a degree programme 

In addition to degree education, Aalto University offers studies that can be completed without being enrolled in a higher educational institution. The studies are excellent for upgrading your skills to match the ever-changing demands of working life, complementing your current degree, or learning just for fun. 

‘Along with the degree programmes, we are expanding the offering of lifewide-learning options to meet the increasing demands for education. We aim to offer university studies also for those who may not need a formal degree, providing pathways for personal and professional growth’, explains Suomala. 

It is possible to complete lifewide-learning studies either online or on campus, and either self-paced or intensively with a group. The low-threshold online courses offer a glimpse inºÚÁÏÍø's key areas of expertise, such as technology and sustainability. More extensive, continuing professional education and degrees are suitable for updating a learner's knowledge over the long term.
