Cumulus GREEN 2020 competition sought for solutions on sustainability and circular economy

Cumulus GREEN 2020: For A Circular Economy competition called last October on students from across the globe to develop products, services and systems to meet the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. Special focus is paid on SDG 12 for responsible consumption and production.
Students across 44 countries and 163 universities entered altogether 683 solutions to the competition. Solutions were judged based on desirability and feasibility, evidence of a rigorous research process, and degree of innovation.
The were announced 4 May. The winners come from Iceland University of the Arts, Parsons School of Design, The New School in New York and The Oslo School of Architecture and Design in Norway.
Dwiyani and Venot’s with their ‘Sustainable Initiative within Material Development from Rice Waste Industry’ seek solutions on how to benefit the massive waste of rice production. The project examined how sustainable initiative in material research can contribute to tackling the environmental issue, and in particular utilizing the rice straw massive residue as a potential future material for the community development.
The international student competition is organized by Cumulus, a global association serving universities and colleges of art, design and media, in cooperation with the Ellen MacArthur Foundation. The competition is also sponsored by BE OPEN Foundation.
