Cyber security lectures started in Otaniemi

The next lecture will be held on 9 February. The lecture series will culminate with a panel discussion in May.

The lively discussion on cyber security continues. The first lecture in the series was on trust and security, which go hand in hand.

– Thanks to the positive feedback we received last spring, we decided to organise a new public lecture series. Cyber security is an integral and essential part of our society, businesses and way of life, says Professor of Cyber Security Jarno Limnéll.

The keynote speakers of the lecture were Minister of Transport and Communications Anne Berner and Member of Parliament Jyrki J. Kasvi.

– Technological development is changing our everyday lives. Thanks to digitalisation, it is possible to make all business global and international. An essential prerequisite is trust and information security, which has in itself become a business and competitive edge, recalls Minister Berner.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications has been drafting an information security strategy in close cooperation with businesses, to be completed by the end of February. The strategy envisions that the most trusted digital business in the world will come from Finland.

Information security has to be usable

Member of Parliament Jyrki J. Kasvi reminded the audience that cyber security is not a new phenomenon, with an example from 1982.

– Cyber threats can be global, but at the same time also deeply entrenched in our everyday lives, such as in the automation systems of our homes.

The MP finds the biggest challenges to be with usability of information security. Developing the Internet of Things and cyber security requires expertise in wireless communication, automation and usability.
