Aalto University is one of the participants in the new Design for Value (D4V) program, which studies and develops future supply chains. The aim of the program is to enable the best possible use of digital disruption for business growth.

‘There is a strong demand for D4V-program in the industry’, says researcher Pekka Töytäri from the Industrial Engineering and Management.  ‘We aim to create future supply chains with high degree of automation, strong network ties, high value creation, and motivating value sharing among ecosystem partners.'

The program studies three connected industrial supply chains: factories, ports and ships with autonomous shipping.

‘Digital disruption has great value creation potential, but it demands changes in many of the established beliefs and business practices’, Töyrylä adds.

The D4V studies system- and network level business models, different facets of security, legislation, risk management of autonomous operations, and other key challenges of networked value creation. Three schools from Aalto University – School of Science; School of Arts, Design and Architecture, and School of Engineering – participate the D4V. In addition, there are several leading industrial, IT, and research partner organisations. The program is coordinated by DIMECC Oy.

The program duration is three years, 2017 - 2019, and the total funding is 19MEUR.

DIMECC Oy is the leading co-creation platform for digital transformations.
