Ten days ago we welcomed 60 university students and life-wide learners from all over the world to the Aalto University campus. The first two summer courses are the Digital Business Master Class and a customised international programme for the South Korean Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST). Since last week, they have had lectures on timely topics and had the opportunity to experience Finnish summer at its best.

Digital Business Master Class (DBMC) is a two-week intensive course focusing on digital technologies as tools for building businesses. It consists of various lectures and teamwork on real-life business cases where the students can apply the learnings of the course. Based on the exceptionally lively classroom discussions, the lecture topics of the first week awakened a lot of interest!

Already at the beginning of the first week, DBMC students dived deep into digital business cases by partner companies and organisations. These partners are Hiven, Solita, and the Digital Population Data Services Agency (DVV), to mention a few. In total, there are eight international and multidisciplinary teams working on six different business cases. At the start, students met with the partnering organisations and started working on the business cases. Next, the second week started with the first pitches for the other groups, providing valuable feedback for the final presentation taking four days later.

On the other hand, the South Korean students from UNIST have enjoyed the tailor-made academic programme that allows them to experience educational activities in the Aalto way. This international program was all about technology, innovation and entrepreneurship. Like the other group, they worked on a challenge-based task which combined business and the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. Additionally, they have stopped by Startup Sauna and learned more about the entrepreneurship ecosystem at our campus.

The social program is a vital part of the summer school experience. For these two groups, it has included exploring our campus on a campus tour, taking a trip to Suomenlinna Sea Fortress and enjoying the famous Welcome Evening. In addition to that, the students have explored the area on their own and tried Finnish delicacies with their new friends!

Looking back to the past two weeks, we could not be prouder of our summer students for opening up to an international experience and trying new things. Now the summer school team is catching their breath before the next patch of students join us at campus just in three weeks!
