The purpose of the project How to Succeed in the Ecosystem Game is to build a good understanding of the best practices in managing business driven innovation ecosystems. The research contributes to the identified research gap in thorough understanding of ecosystem management practices for sustainable and value adding operations and efficient use of available resources. The second research dimension focuses on internationalization of the ecosystems, both in terms of global competitiveness of the ecosystems, and increasing internationalization for Finnish companies.

The project mainly focuses on business driven innovation ecosystems, built around one focal company, and targeted for development of new technologies and service solutions. Purely research focused and public sector lead ecosystems are out of the scope of the project. The project will result in a handbook that will help both public R&D institutes and industry to better design, launch, manage and benefit from ecosystem. It also supports Business Finland and the Government to better focus research and development efforts and funding for maximal benefit.

The project is managed by Mr. Erkki Ormala, Senior Fellow, at the Aalto University School of Business, Department of Management Studies, and supported by the Center of Knowledge and Innovation Research (CKIR). The project will engage with all the key business driven ecosystems in Finland, and with academia and general public through public dissemination events, reports and scientific articles.
