Huawei and F-Secure will donate to student scholarships through the Helsinki-Aalto Center for Information Security HAIC

The goal is to attract the best students worldwide to meet the acute and growing need for information security professionals.

The Helsinki-Aalto Center for Information Security (HAIC), a joint initiative between Aalto University and the University of Helsinki, continues to attract company donors for its second year of operation. Donations will go towards scholarships for Master鈥檚 Students in order to attract the best students worldwide to meet the acute and growing need for information security professionals.

In 2018, Huawei will join HAIC as a new donor to fund the HAIC MSc scholarships. Already a donor in 2017, F-Secure will continue their support, by making a new donation.

鈥淚n the fast-growing era of technologies and cloud services, we strongly believe it is our mission to protect every citizen in our Huawei ecosystem. Therefore, it is crucial to invest in the next generation of cybersecurity experts to ensure sustainability in an such important field. We are excited to carve this future path with HAIC鈥, says Mikko Terho, VP Technology Planning & Site Manager of Huawei R&D Center.

鈥淔-Secure collaborates closely with Aalto University and the University of Helsinki in research and education, and our support of HAIC reinforces this partnership. HAIC scholars have shown avid interest in internships and Master thesis writer positions at F-Secure, and we hope to continue building fruitful connections with talented students in the cyber security domain,鈥 says Mika St氓hlberg, F-Secure鈥檚 Chief Technology Officer.

The support from donors, like Huawei and F-Secure, will enable HAIC to offer several scholarships to the best applicants admitted to either the Security and Cloud Computing major in Aalto University鈥檚 Master鈥檚 programme in Computer, Communication and Information Sciences or to the recently announced SECCLO 鈥 (Erasmus Mundus).

A HAIC scholar will receive generous financial aid in the form of a living cost scholarship, participation fee waiver, or honours student position (part-time research-related employment during the semesters).

鈥淚t is great to see our industry partners continuing to back HAIC with donations. Taken together, HAIC and SECCLO are expected to support up to 25 incoming students. This is an excellent opportunity for Aalto University to attract and train top-notch talent in information security", says Aalto University Professor N. Asokan.

In 2017, HAIC offered full living costs scholarships and full tuition fee waivers to three non-EU applicants and one honours scholarship to one applicant in Aalto University.

HAIC was founded in 2016 as a joint initiative between Aalto University and the University of Helsinki to ensure excellence in information security research and education. The universities foster strong research groups and education programs in information security and privacy. Collectively these groups represent the best information security expertise in Finland and one of the best in Europe.
