Industry-oriented telecommunications engineering programme is launched

The overall objective is to educate students in Master’s Degree Program in two specialization tracks of Telecommunication Engineering.

Addis Institute of Technology (AAiT), through the Addis Ababa University (AAU), has signed a service contract agreement with ethio telecom, the sole telecom service provider in Ethiopia, to launch a new Master of Science Programme in Telecommunication Engineering.

The signing ceremony was held on March 28, 2016 in Hilton Addis Hotel in the presence of Government Ministers, ethio telecom and AAU board of directors and management members as well as invited guests. Amongst the invited guests was a representative from Aalto University, the coordinating partner HEI ICI ENhANCE project.

Dr Admase Admasu Tsegaye, AAU President (on the left) and Mr. Andualem Admase, Ethio Telecom Chief Executive Officer (on the right) signed the agreement on behalf of Addis Ababa University and Ethio Telecom, respectively.

The overall objective of the agreement is to educate students in Master’s Degree Program in two specialization tracks of Telecommunication Engineering, as well as, facilitate, equip and supervise students to undertake research in their respective disciplines.

AAU/AAiT has pledged to provide competent and quality Master’s Degree Education in the fields of Telecommunications Engineering and will engage the required professional, personnel and put in place the technical resources needed to smoothly run the Programme. AAU/AAiT has pledged to seek for further collaborations with global institutions and partners to support the Programme’s teaching and research.

To that end, Aalto University is one of the key training partners in the implementation of the Programme after contributing in the curriculum development process as part of the industry-outreach activities of the ENhANCE project. ENhANCE team members in AAiT have initially brought forward the Programme development idea while conducting SWOT analysis of the existing Communication Engineering graduate curriculum in AAiT. Moreover, the ENhANCE team members where core members of the Telecommunication Engineering Programme development team. On the other hand, ethio telecom will support the Programme by covering tuition fees of students, in the establishment of telecommunication laboratory and workshop, and availing other relevant resources at its disposal.
