Interwoven dives into textile design and weaving
Maarit Salolainen has done pioneering work in the textile world as a designer and teacher. In Interwoven she lets her readers in on the rich, tactile world of textile design and weaving.
The book presents different fibres, yarns and weaves. However, it is not only a book about materials and structures but also encourages readers to create their own stories with textiles. Inspiration can be found from Aalto ARTS design students, who share their works and stories behind them.
Interwoven weaves technical knowledge and pedagogy, materials and structures, creating and design as well as history and future into one-of-a-kind book.
Maija Fagerlund has written a chapter on jacquard technique and Anna-Mari Leppisaari about finishes and finished fabrics. Book also includes crucial information about environmental impact of fibres by Kirsi Niinimäki.
Interwoven is designed by Minna Luoma and most of the photographs are taken by Eeva Suorlahti.
