Joni Tammi continues as Director of Metsähovi Radio Observatory

The appointment is for the term 2023–2025.

Joni Tammi (Ph.D.) has been appointed as Director of Metsähovi Radio Observatory for the term of 1st Jan 2023 to 31st Dec 2025. Tammi has served as Director of Metsähovi since 2014.

Metsähovi Radio Observatory is a separate unit of the Aalto University School of Electrical Engineering and one of Aalto University’s large research and teaching infrastructures. Finland's only astronomical radio observatory is located in Kirkkonummi municipality, Finland, about 35 km west of the university's Otaniemi campus.

Metsähovi Radio Observatory

Metsähovi Radio Observatory is the only astronomical radio observatory in Finland. Metsähovi’s main instrument is the 14-metre radio telescope, which is used around the clock, every day of the year. Its observational data is used, e.g., for studying active galaxies, the Sun, and the rotation of the Earth.

Metsähovi Radio Observatory renovation is complete

The renovation of Finland's only radio observatory is an investment into national astronomical research.
