Julius Bartels Medal awarded to Tuija Pulkkinen
The European Geosciences Union EGU awards the Julius Bartels Medal triennially in recognition of outstanding research in solar-terrestrial sciences. During her academic career, Vice President of Research and Innovation Tuija Pulkkinen has become best known for her research focusing on understanding the dynamics of the near-Earth space environment and its coupling with the charged particle flow from the Sun. Her main contributions have been modeling of explosive disruptions of the Earth's comet-like magnetic tail and its connection to auroras.
The jury adds that Pulkkinen performed her scientific studies in a highly collaborative way at several renowned research institutions in Finland and in the United States. The range of her scientific achievements can best be judged from a total of around 240 publications in international refereed journals and from the still rising citation rate, approaching 5000.
