Lauri Nummenmaa receives 2015 Academy of Finland Award
The Academy of Finland has awarded the 2015 Academy of Finland Award to Academy Research Fellow Lauri Nummenmaa from Aalto University and the University of Turku.
Lauri Nummenmaa (b. 1977) is an internationally renowned neuroscientist, whose research combines medical science, psychology and information processing science in a new and unique way. Mr Nummenmaa and his team study the molecular brain mechanisms and functioning neural networks that guide emotions and social interaction. Another of his key areas of interest is the brain mechanisms that contribute to obesity.
Research carried out by Mr Nummenmaa's team on how different emotions change the body's functions and how emotions are mapped in the body has received widespread interest in not only the science community, but also in the mass media and social media in Finland and abroad.
The Academy of Finland also granted the Award for Scientific Courage to Tuuli Lähdesmäki from the University of Jyväskylä.
