Members of Aalto community awarded grants for more than half a million euros by Finnish Cultural Foundation

Experts of culture, science, technology and economics were among those who received funding.

The Finnish Cultural Foundation awarded a record €25 million in its Annual Gala on 27 February.

The foundation awarded altogether 26 grants amounting to €592 000 for research conducted in connection with Aalto University. The members of the Aalto community who received the grants work on very different research topics. They include Kaisu Savola, who studies Finnish design education in her dissertation; Jorge Santos, who prepares a dissertation on quantum mechanical phenomena; Antti Keskilä, who develops next generation small satellite technology; and Juha Virrankoski, who studies productivity differences in companies and centralisation of labour markets.

Altogether 1 064 people, teams or communities received grants. The figure was 1 018 in the previous year. The number of applications in art fell by five hundred, while the number of applications in science increased by one hundred. The money available for grants was as much as two million euros more than in the previous year, so the success rate for applications in both science and art increased to 12 per cent.
