The Meyer hall, sponsored by the Meyer Turku shipyard, has opened its doors in the K1 building of the Otaniemi campus. It is part of a sponsorship agreement signed by Aalto University and Meyer Turku Oy in September. The aim of the agreement is to further strengthen the fruitful cooperation between the university and the shipyard. Having a sponsored lecture hall is part of the company's efforts to build its image as an employer among students.

’I am happy about the opening of our school’s first sponsored lecture hall and welcome Meyer Turku to the Otaniemi campus. The School of Engineering has a long tradition of close co-operation with industry, and this sponsored lecture hall highlights the impact of Aalto's research and education in the field of marine technology’, said Dean Gary Marquis.

‘We want to reach experts from different fields and build a dialogue with them about the future of shipbuilding, so we are looking forward to the opportunities that the new space will bring. We hope that all Aalto students interested in marine engineering and ship design can discover the lecture hall. Everyone is welcome, though: A sustainable future and the technological solutions it requires offer unprecedented opportunities for world-class professionals on a very wide scale’, said Tim Meyer, CEO of Meyer Turku Oy.

’This lecture hall offers Aalto students, researchers and Meyer Turku Oy a natural place to meet and highlights ship design and shipbuilding, which represent the pinnacle of Finnish knowhow. In the future, the maritime industry will need more talented experts who are able to create new innovations in line with sustainable development’, said Heikki Remes, professor of marine technology.

The interior of the lecture hall was designed by experts at Meyer Turku. An exhibition of cruise ship scale models has been opened in the lobby of the lecture hall for the autumn. The Meyer Turku hall is located in lecture hall 215, on the second floor of Otakaari 4.
