Multifactor authentication (MFA) required less often from now on

Cyber security is an important part of our daily operations. Multifactor authentication helps keep data secure. Usability has been improved based on feedback.

Aalto IT Services has developed multifactor authentication (MFA, 2FA) based on user feedback. Going forward, you will be prompted to authenticate with multifactor authentication less frequently.

In the future, MFA will cover multiple applications within the same session. If you have authenticated to MyCourses, you won’t be prompted to log in again for other applications during the same session. An exception to this is SISU, which will always require multifactor authentication due to the personal information it contains.

What should I do?

Use Aalto remote access (VPN) when working. This ensures that multifactor authentication is requested less frequently.

Why is multifactor authentication used at Aalto?

Aalto uses multifactor authentication for certain services when you log in from outside the Aalto University network. For some services, authentication is also required when accessing them from within the Aalto network.

Multifactor authentication is an important part of cyber security at Aalto. It ensures that Aalto University's services and data remain secure and are accessed only by individuals who have the right to do so.
