New connections were made at the New York Alumni meet

Over 20 New York and Philadelphia based alumni met in New York.

Aalto University鈥檚 first Alumni Event on the East Coast of the USA gathered over 20 New York and Philadelphia based alumni in the tower of Goldman Sachs Investment Banking on Thursday 4 February 2016. The alumni represented mostly the field of Business but there were also graduates from the Technology as well as Arts and Design.

School of Business alumni Tomi Fyrqvist, Analyst at Goldman Sachs Investment Banking, offered the great venue for the event on the 12th floor overlooking the Freedom Tower in the Financial District of Manhattan.

The alumni were thrilled by the presentation of the key note speaker, Matti Keloharju, Eero Kasanen Professor of Finance at Aalto University School of Business, Aalto Distinguished Professor, Academy of Finland Professor, and the moment Visiting Professor at Harvard Business School. He inspired a lively discussion with his research on Chief Executive Officers.

The Dean of the Business School, Professor Ingmar Bj枚rkman finished the official agenda of the event by sharing the latest news and developments of Aalto University and the School of Business, after which there was an opportunity for social networking for the participants.

The New York Alumni Event followed the Dean's following similar gatherings in the Stanford University campus, and the City of London.

The purpose of the events is to create a platform for Aalto Alumni for local collaboration as much as to create a network of financial supporters for the university. Like Professor Keloharju commented about Harvard: 鈥淭here is no graduate leaving the campus without making a small donation鈥 鈥 which is a symbolic gesture but it starts a stream of later and larger donations that for their significant part fund the world leading research and education machine.

鈥淲hile the public funding in Finland is severely diminishing, Aalto University needs a similar network of companies, foundations and private individuals to support and ensure the continuity of its education of game changers to the research and business鈥, reminded Dean Bj枚rkman.

Dean Ingmar Bj枚rkman told the alumni about the university focus areas.

There are already nearly 40 000 alumni from over 80 countries in Aalto University alumni network. You can join the network free of charge at .
