The Academy of Finland’s Research Council for Biosciences, Health and Environment and Research Council for Culture and Society have decided on 3.3 million euros in funding for nine new Academy Projects.

Projects supported by the Research Council for Biosciences, Health and the Environment investigate the conversion of methane into electricity and remote sensing in the monitoring of plant diversity and develop methods to support environmental decision-making.

Projects supported by the Research Council for Culture and Society focus on the decision-making of individuals in investments, incentives in economic applications and production of health services, and quantum computing from a business perspective. Researchers also focus on the meanings of the location of companies and a digital tool for developing language skills.

In the September 2018 call, the Academy of Finland had a 25 million euros additional funding to be used to support the younger generation of researchers. The Academy decided to distribute these funds in Academy Projects.

The funding decisions of the research councils were made on 22 May (Research Council for Biosciences, Health and Environment, BHE) and 24 May 2019 (Research Council for Culture and Society, CS). The funding periods start 1 September 2019.

Academy of Finland's Research Council for Natural Sciences and Engineering will publish its funding decisions on 11 June.
