Novartis Neuroscience award 2016 to Enrico Glerean

The winner of the 16th Novartis Neuroscience award is Enrico Glerean from the Department of Neuroscience and Biomedical Engineering.

Novartis Finland supports Finnish neuroscience research by giving the Novartis Neuroscience award annually to the author of the best PhD thesis in Finland in the field of brain research. These awards have been made since 1998. The recipient is selected by the board of the Finnish Brain Research Society based on nominations.

The winner of the 16th Novartis Neuroscience award is Enrico Glerean (Department of Neuroscience and Biomedical Engineering, School of Science, Aalto University) with his thesis "Dynamic similarity of brain activity in humans: from single areas to functional networks". The award was made in the Neuroscience Finland 2016 event on 25 October 2016 in Biomedicum, Helsinki.

In his doctoral thesis, Enrico Glerean developed neuroimaging methods for understanding similarities and differences at the individual level in the activation and co-operation of brain areas. Modern brain imaging methods are hoped to assist in the diagnostics of heterogenic autism spectrum disorders.

Enrico Glerean defended his PhD thesis in a public examination on 16 December 2015 at Aalto University in Otaniemi. His thesis supervisor was Mikko Sams and his opponent was Christopher J. Honey from the University of Toronto.
