Online course “Wood products and processes” starts 27.2.2023

The course presents the production processes of wood products, such as plywood, cross-laminated timber, and modified wood products starting from raw material to the end product. Links between wood product properties and typical applications in the living environment are described. Students in all fields are welcome!

CHEM-E2235 Wood Products and Processes (5 cr) course is organized for the first time in the online format in spring 2023. You may follow the course independently whenever it is suitable for you during IV period 27.2. – 14.4.2023. The course includes short videos, texts, exercises and online exams. The course starts with an online introduction 27.2.2023 at 14:15. Register to the course by 6.3.2023:

Mechanical processing is needed to use wood in any other format than cylinder.

Lauri Rautkari, Professor

This course presents widely used wood-based products as well as those that have been recently developed. The production processes and structure of different engineered wood products, such as plywood, cross-laminated timber, and other timber and panel products, are described in detail. Links between wood product properties and typical applications in the living environment are presented. Further the course covers wood modification methods which affect the durability of wood.

This course is aimed at students wishing to specialize in the materials science of wood, this course will also be of interest to students of architecture, civil & structural engineering, materials science & engineering and related disciplines, who have an interest in the possibilities offered by wood.

More practical information about the course will be updated later in the year in MyCourses:
