Red Dot award in UXUS programme

The Department of Design in Aalto ARTS had an active role in UXUS research programme.

UXUS research programme introduced user experience thinking to Finnish metal and engineering industry. We can now enjoy the results, such as already the second Red Dot Award for Rocla, one of the company partners.

A record-breaking 5,214 products from 57 countries were assessed on site by the judging panel, in Germany, before the winners were announced. Along with design quality, the panel looked at aspects including innovation, functionality and environmental friendliness.

"Our record owes much to our pioneering work in human-centred design and our use of advanced methods for understanding and measuring user experience," Kero Uusitalo explains. 鈥

In the last few years it has been helped by our participation in the UXUS (User Experience and Usability in complex Systems) programme run by researchers at FIMECC (Finnish Metals and Engineering Competence Cluster) and partly funded by Finland鈥檚 government. Working with experts at the forefront of this field, we have demonstrated the power of user experience to differentiate products and make businesses more competitive."
