Reorganisation of Aalto University Learning Centre

An organisational change is planned for the Aalto University Learning Centre (Library) in order to meet the changing needs of customers and operating environments brought on particularly by digitalisation and campus development.

Statutory cooperation negotiations on the reform concluded in mutual understanding on 10 November 2017.

From the start of 2018, Learning Centre operations will be organised in a customer centric manner into different service units – Learning Services, Research and Innovation Services, Leadership Support Services (Management Information Service and Records Management) and IT Services. All Learning Centre permanent employees will be offered work in the new organisation. Changes may ensue, however, in the job descriptions of some personnel.

‘The current organisational change is in line with the university’s development of customer-centric services. In a constantly changing environment, we are ensuring a superior standard of services for our customers’, explains Vice President Eero Eloranta.

The use of printed material has decreased significantly among Aalto University Learning Centre customers. Aalto wishes to continue serving the whole university community: to meet the diverse needs of the students, who are at the centre of university operations, to advise researchers in publishing, practising open science, and storing data, and to provide analysed data for the needs of the university management. In addition, Aalto wants to be able to offer flexible workspaces for academic work.
