Search for Heads of Departments at the School of Arts, Design and Architecture

The Dean of Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture requests applications or nominations for suitable candidates for positions of Heads of Departments´ at Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture.

The School’s academic activity is divided into five departments Department of Architecture, Department of Art, Department of Film, Television and Scenography, Department of Design and Department of MediaThe Head of Department leads the activities of the department and is responsible for it’s academic and financial results. The Head of Department puts forward proposals to the school academic committee on the study plans and degree requirements as well as student admission criteria. The bylaws of the School of Arts, Design and Architecture describe the . 

Candidates will be expected to: 

  • Have a successful career in Sciences and/or Arts and in teaching in the school’s fields of activities
  • Have experience of the university world and international activities,
  • Possess an overall view of the School  and engage in the common goals of the School of Arts, Design and Architecture,
  • Have a vision of how the respective Department as well as the School of Arts, Design and Architecture can be developed,
  • Possess fluent skills in English; Finnish and Swedish are an advantage.

The heads of department are members of the School’s Leadership Team and serve directly under the Dean. The term of office will begin on 1 September 2019 and will last until the end of term of the Dean (10.3.2024). There is a strategy process ongoing in Aalto University as well as in the School of Art, Design and Architecture. Should the new strategy bring structural changes, the current departmental structure may change.

The Dean appoints the heads of departments. After the appointments, deputy heads of department and heads of research and education will be appointed.
