Space experts gather in Otaniemi

The annual Winter Satellite Workshop has expanded one of the largest New Space meetings in Finland, Scandinavia and the Baltic countries.

The Winter Satellite Workshop 2024 will take place in Otaniemi, Dipoli, from Wednesday to Friday, 17-19. January. The event is the largest New Space event in Finland and other Nordic and Baltic countries.

The event founded and organized by Aalto University brings together space technology specialists, scientists, and students to discuss current topics in a rapidly developing space field. The scope of the workshop set on New Space, small satellite missions, small satellite platform development, space science and instruments, Earth Observation and sustainable utilization of space.

The event is open to everyone

The Winter Satellite Workshop 2024 is an event open to everyone, and several interesting talks will be heard during the three days. One of the keynote speakers at the event is Timo Pesonen, Director General for Defence Industry and Space at European Commission.

Finland and Estonia joined the European Space Agency's manned space flight program as the last full members of ESA in November 2022. Participation in the program enables Finland to enter projects concerning the International Space Station, hearings and a space station planned for lunar orbit, as well as Mars flights.

'Finland has always had a strong position in space research and applied research. During the last few years, Finland has profiled itself as an agile and cost-effective operator of the new space age, where startup companies and research expertise in international projects are growing strongly,' says professor Jaan Praks, the organizer of the event.

Welcome to the open event for everyone to hear and get to know what kind of environment Finland is for experts in the space industry and what New Space is.

Contrary to previous information, Director of Human and Robotic Exploration of the European Space Agency Daniel Neuenschwander and astronaut Christer Fuglesang are unable to attend the event.
