The class of 1983 gathered to commemorate their 40th anniversary on Friday, October 27.  A remarkable turnout of one hundred and twenty classmates attended, showcasing the exceptional activity level of the class. It had been a decade since their last similar gathering.

‘The most wonderful thing was realizing how little our familiar classmates had changed in 40 years. Perhaps a bit more charisma on the faces, but the same curious ‘mursu’ beneath the surface’ described Daniel Tuori, who served as the evening’s host and master of ceremonies.

The celebratory day kicked off in Otaniemi, where the classmates gathered to enjoy sparkling beverages at the restaurant Arvo in the new building of the School of Business. After the toasts, fellow classmate and Aalto University School of Business professor Hannu Seristö presented an insightful overview of what Kauppis was like in 1983 and how it has evolved to this day.

Following the discussion, they strolled in the crisp autumn weather to the nearby Design Factory, the home of Aalto Ventures Program and Startup Sauna. Aalto Entrepreneurship Society's chairperson, Niklas Hamberg, warmly welcomed the classmates and enthusiastically introduced AaltoES's programs promoting entrepreneurial growth.

Our 80s nostalgia hit us emotionally, but getting to know the current state of Aalto's Kauppis resonated with our rational side. Kauppis and the student life at KY shaped each of us for both professional and personal life

From Design Factory, the journey continued to Runeberginkatu, the location of the old Kauppis. During the dinner at Restaurant Töölö, guests enjoyed excellent live music performed by key members of the group that initiated Kauppis' Speksi tradition in 1985: Antti Aumo, Jussi Ratsula, and Vesa Tuomi. Pauliina Heikkilä played a pivotal role in initiating and organizing the whole event.

The celebratory day provided classmates with a fantastic opportunity to reconnect with good friends from decades past, and the evening was filled with laughter, memories, and joyful conversations.

‘We agreed that we won't wait for another 10 years for the next one!’
